wow! – That’s a warm welcome

Really welcome your new colleague!

Wouldn’t it be great if new employees really felt welcome at your organization during the onboarding period?

Of course, onboarding goes further than just the welcome and introduction of and into the organization. With onboarding you give your employee all the necessary knowledge and resources to socialize, to function and to have a pleasant landing in the organization.

And should your employee eventually leave the organization, you want them to leave with the feeling that they are really going to miss the organization and colleagues.

When do you really feel welcome?

Welcome is about the way you are received. If you are welcome, then you are wanted, also to stay. You are loved and you are looked forward to. Giving someone the feeling of being really welcome is special. If you understand that feeling, people will be happy to work for you. It sounds so simple and like a very natural feeling.

But feeling welcome is an experience. The standard, the way in which we give substance to the warm welcome, differs per culture and even per person. What is a warm welcome to a Frenchman will probably be experienced very differently by an American.

As an organisation, you can organize the building in such a way that employees feel welcome. With inviting coffee corners, comfortable meeting rooms and nice workplaces.

But you can also point out to your employees their role in making their new colleague feel welcome.

In this way you help your employees to become aware of how their behavior influences the welcome experience of their new colleague. And the new colleague feels seen and involved and becomes part of the team more easily.

How do you make your employees aware of their role in the feeling of welcome?

  • Give them a signal when their new colleague starts.
  • Ask them to actively help their new colleague during the onboarding period.
  • Let them contact you and share information about themselves before the first working day. (via email, linkedIn, calling, etc.)

In our online onboarding app – with preboarding options – all this is already standard in the onboarding program.
